DARLINGTON – The Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce recognized community leaders during its Annual Stars of Darlington Banquet on Jan. 28 at Darlington Country Club. Miss Teen Darlington Carolyn Byrd assisted Executive Director Susan Alexander with the presentation of the awards.
Rep. Denny Neilson received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Nucor was honored for its 40 years serving the Darlington community.
Citizen of the Year was David Eads of Eads Chiropractic.
Educator of the Year was Renny Johnson, who worked in both Mayo and Darlington High Schools.
“While he is retired, he still has a dedication to teaching through his Sunday school and mentoring,” Alexander said.
Tony DiLeo with Darlington Downtown Revitalization Assocation was awarded the Excellence in Service Award.
The Future Business Leader of the Year was Anthony Outlaw with Premier & Partners.
The Billie Hardee Home for Boys was awarded the Community Pride Award.
Board members of the year were Patricia Godbold and Victor Pizzuro.
Retiring board members were Matt Manelli of Nucor, Maureen Thomas of Darlington County School District, Joe Nettles of Nettles Tire in Society Hill, Louis Kirven of Florence Concrete Products, John Isgett of Raceway Automotive and John Shurman of GE and formerly of Edward Jones.
