Mayor Lovith Anderson Jr. and Willie Mae Anderson would like to personally thank Mary Ryan and Gregg Platt along with Ryan’s students from The Carolina Academy, who assisted her with the first annual United Way dinner fundraiser in Lake City.
Mrs. Ryan opened her beautiful home at 509 E. Main St. on Jan. 9 and hosted a buffet dinner with tasty foods and mouthwatering desserts. She felt the need to give back to the community and worked diligently preparing a guest list, working out the logistics to seat the guests and putting together a fantastic menu for the guests.
Mary gave her students from The Carolina Academy an opportunity to be actively involved with this effort, also. Eighth-grade students volunteered to wash dishes, and eleventh-grade students volunteered to serve while guests were seated and eating. The food catered by Ms. Pearl Fulmore was absolutely delicious.
A tax-deductible donation of $20 per person was received for the United Way of Florence County. The United Way of Florence County serves the citizens of Lake City in many ways through its partner agencies such as the Salvation Army, Senior Citizens Association, Lighthouse Ministries, American Red Cross, and the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault, just to name a few.
God always has the right people in the right places and at the right time. Mrs. Anderson and I sincerely thank all those citizens in attendance for taking time out of their busy schedules to participate in this much-needed event, and we look forward to seeing you again next year. May God continue to bless you and your family, Mrs. Ryan.
