FLORENCE – Road projects seem to be the most popular of all Good Questions! That makes sense, since so many of you drive these roads every day.
Gail Gray wants to know, "Why is it that Florence County hasn't done anything to widen HWY 378 from Lake City to Big Pee Dee River?"
Well, that stretch of Highway 378 is being prepped right now for construction. There are three phases to that project. The first part of construction is slated to begin in the Spring, and should be complete by Summer 2011. It will widen about eight miles of Highway 378 from US 52 to S-561.Construction for the second phase (from S-561 to S-225) should start in Fall 2012, and be complete in Winter 2013. Construction on the third phase, stretching from S-225 to SC 41, should begin in Summer 2013, and be finished by Winter 2014.

Another Good Question came out of Florence this week. Many people want to know what happened to the beloved Sundae House on Palmetto Street.
We’re sad to report that the favorite stop for ice cream has closed for good. One of its owners said it shut down December 8th after being a staple in Florence since 1941.
People stopped by the Sundae House for frozen treats, food, and friendly faces for 61 years until the economy got the best of it.
Like many small, locally-owned shops, the Sundae House just couldn’t keep up with the national chains that are able to offer super cheap deals on their food and ice cream.
The shop employed eight people when it closed, and its owners don’t know what will go in the building now that the Sundae Shop is gone.
News13 featured the Sundae Shop in its “favorites” series in July. News13 viewers and facebook fans voted it as one of their favorite places for frozen tasty treats.
