The March of Dimes held their official kickoff to the March for Babies campaign at the Marion County Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
“Today is the actual kickoff for our campaign,” March of Dimes South Carolina Chapter Pee Dee Division Executive Director Crystal Hummer said. “Our team captains who participate throughout the community, not all of them, but some of them will be here today to hear about the campaign and to get the materials they need for their fundraising.”
March for Dimes mission is to prevent premature birth defects and infant mortality. Since 1970, March for Babies, has risen more than 1.8 billion dollars Hummer said. In 2009 Marion County raised more than $25,000 during March for Babies.
“This years goal is $30,000,” Hummer said. “I know we can do it. I do believe we can be successful.”
This year’s ambassador family is Jennifer Martin of Nichols, whose child was born prematurely in Marion County.
The March for Babies walk will be held on Nov. 13 at the Marion County Regional Hospital at 10 a.m.
