What started out as the ideas of area elementary school students 2 years ago is now becoming a reality.
Palmetto Adventure Land will be Horry County's first community-built playground.
"It's something that we don't have here in the county and it will be a great asset to our area," said Horry County's Lisa Bourcier.
The project was modeled after similar ones in South Carolina, like Kids Planet in Greer.
Just like it took teamwork to design Palmetto Adventure Land, it's going to take some teamwork in order to build it.
"We're still a couple weeks out, but our big need right now is for volunteers," said Bourcier.
The county will need at least 175 volunteers every day from September 21st to the 26th.
Some area groups are leading the way, like the Carolina Forest Rotary Club.
The group has already raised over $1,000 and purchased costly handicap-friendly water fountains for the park.
Club Secretary Janice Simmons says the playground will give Carolina Forest something it really needs.
"Carolina Forest is a new community within our area. It's not Myrtle Beach and it's not Conway...so this will give us time to be a family of our own," said Simmons.
And bringing the community together is exactly what the project is intended to do.
