4 people killed, 1 injured in Dillon County crash

HAMER - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Dillon County that killed 4 people and sent another to the hospital.

According the SC Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 11:25 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of State Road 40 and State Road 50, about 4.5 miles north of Dillon.

Cpl. Paul Brouthers said the driver of a 1999 Saturn ran a stop sign and was struck by a 2001 Volkswagen.

The driver of the Saturn and 3 female passengers all died at the scene. 

Dillon County Coroner Sam Grimsley identified the victims as Jeffrey Carpenter Jr., from Kentucky and Erin Hullett, also from Kentucky

The other two victims, Tara Brittany Doss and Eric Michael Ross, were brother and sister. 

Tara lived in Latta and Eric lived in Missouri.

Brothers said no one in the Saturn was wearing a seatbelt. The driver and one other passenger were ejected.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Lydell Hinson, 32, of Fairmont, was transported to McLeod-Dillon for his injuries.

 

The incident remains under investigation.
