SCIWAY.com, a website all about South Carolina, is seeking photographs to represent Marion County in the South Carolina Picture Project, an online photo gallery for the state. The gallery contains images from all over the state taken by residents and visitors.
Photos of Marion County are underrepresented in the gallery and so to correct this, SCIWAY is sponsoring a photo contest with $50 going to person who submits the best photo of Marion County. Separate contests are also underway for photos of Allendale, Calhoun, Jasper, and Union counties.
Photos should be at least 600 pixels wide, show a cultural landmark, historic building, or natural scene. They should not have close-ups of people. Please include a brief description of the scene providing the subject of the picture, the date it was taken and any details the photographer would like to share.
SCIWAY will narrow the entries down to six finalists for each county, then open voting up to everyone. Anyone who goes to SCIWAY's homepage will be able to vote.
Submissions are due by April 30. Voting will begin May 6. Voters will be able to choose one favorite photo for each county. The photo with the most votes wins, and that photographer will receive a cash prize.
The purpose of the South Carolina Picture Project is to celebrate the beauty of the Palmetto State while preserving some of its vanishing landscapes. Over 80,000 people view the SC Picture Project each month. Submitting a photo is a great way to honor your county, hometown, or favorite local scene.
