The inaugural Vonoka Kind Award was presented to Verniell Hannibal, the house manager for Reagan House, a residential home. Hannibal was nominated for the award by Lead LPN Health Coordinator Dawanda Brown.
This new award created by the Staff Support Team memorializes the late Vonoka Kind, who worked at DCDSNB for almost 15 years when she passed away in April of last year. The award’s purpose is to recognize an employee who demonstrates excellence in commitment, dedication, dependability, teamwork, leadership and service above and beyond to the board and consumers. Vonoka’s family graciously attended the ceremony and John Kind, Vonoka’s husband, assisted with the presentation of the award.
Rose Brown received Special Recognition of Excellence for her dedicated service to the board. Brown is the work activity supervisor at Bridging the Gap. She was nominated for an award by Day Program Director Tanya Palumbo.
The prestigious Lou Scott Award, named for the board’s founder Lou Scott, was presented to Dawanda Brown, the Lead LPN Health Coordinator for the agency. Brown was nominated for this award by Executive Assistant Carrie Chenard. The Lou Scott Award is given each year to an employee who has a profound impact on the lives of the people they serve in some significant way. The honoree is chosen by the board’s Executive Director Ruth Thomas based on nominations submitted to her by executive staff.
Service Awards were presented to employees who have demonstrated agency loyalty for five or more years of service as well.
The DCDSNB Staff Support Team, a volunteer organization of staff whose purpose is to provide a direct link between the employees and administration and to provide morale-boosting activities for employees, sponsors the awards.
