MYRTLE BEACH -- “We are looking for every possible way to save a dollar." That's according to Myrtle Beach public information officer Mark Kruea about the outlook for next year's budget.
City leaders will be talking about cost-cutting measures and other issues at this year’s city council budget retreat on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at Wampee Conference Center in Pinopolis.
The agenda includes an overview of the city manager’s recommended budget, which Kruea said will likely not include a tax increase, but there may be some fee increases.
Debra Price, who doesn’t live far from The Market Common said she’s done enough as a taxpayer and is not in favor of paying any more money for city services, she suggests something else for city leaders to try in order to save money. "If they draw a salary, maybe they should take less salary, you know have a cutback themselves, you know everyone else seems to have to cutback everywhere."
Kruea said the city has made cutbacks. "Already the city has said no pay increases, that was part of this year's budget, we've essentially let positions go unfilled as a means of saving some money so we've already tightened the belt but there's less revenue coming in for next year and that means more cuts for next year."

The retreat is open to the public.
