Robeson County deputies arrest jail escapee

LUMBERTON - Robeson County Sheriff's deputies re-captured a kidnapping suspect who escaped from the county jail Tuesday night.

Sheriff Ken Sealey said his deputies, along with Lumberton Police and the North Carolina Highway Patrol, arrested Jamal Antonio McRae, 18, at the Knights Inn in Lumberton early Sunday morning.

According to a news release, McRae on Tuesday complained to a detention officer of having chest pains. While en route to seek medical attention McRae assaulted the detention officer and escaped.

McRae was in jail awaiting charges on kidnapping, attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious injury.
