GREENVILLE – The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities will welcome more than 250 visitors to its campus during the 2009 Open Doors event to be held on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Beginning at 9:30 am at the school’s 15 University Street location, visitors will have an opportunity to speak with arts faculty, student services staff, administrators and others to learn more about the Residential High School and Summer Programs for emerging artists. The event will end at 12:30 pm.
The Office of Enrollment and Outreach will waive the application processing fees of $50 for Residential and $25 for Summer applicants who attend.
Open Doors is free of charge and the public is invited. Pre-registration is encouraged; contact the Office of Enrollment and Outreach at 864.282.3713 or admissions@scgsah.state.sc.us.
During the 10 am art area sessions, visitors will learn valuable information about the pre-professional Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts programs. Scheduled tours will acquaint guests with the campus. Student rooms in the residence hall will also be available for viewing.
General information sessions tailored to the Residential High School and Summer Programs will complete the day. School leaders, enrollment staff, academic and arts faculty and others will be available to respond to questions.

The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is a public residential high school for emerging artists statewide. The school serves artistically-talented high school students through programs of pre-professional instruction in an environment of artistic and academic excellence. Arts concentrations for both the Residential High School program and Summer Programs include Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts.
Residential High School -- Students apply and audition while in the 10th grade to attend the Residential High School their 11th-12th grade years (with the exception of Dance, for which eighth- through 11th-grade students may apply to attend during their ninth-12th grade years).
Summer Programs -- 2010 Summer Programs include:
Summer Discovery -- a two-week program for rising ninth-graders interested in Creative Writing, Drama, Music or Visual Arts. While working intensely in their art area, students are also exposed to the other art areas with opportunities to attend performances and guest lectures. Apply and audition in the 8th grade. Program dates: July 11-24, 2010.
Summer Academy -- a two-week program for rising tenth graders desiring intensive study in Creative Writing, Drama, Music or Visual Arts. The unique curriculum incorporates studio work, self-directed studies, performance, field trips, lectures and presentation by faculty and guest artists. Apply and audition in the ninth grade. Program dates: June 20 - July 3, 2010.
Summer Dance -- this five-week program offers intensive training in ballet and modern dance. Students may apply during their sixth-11th grade years to attend the summer before their seventh-12th grade years. (Applicants must be 12 years of age by June 1 of the year they attend). Program dates: June 20 - July 24, 2010.
