CONWAY - In an effort to raise sexual assault awareness, Coastal Carolina University will host two events, “Take Back the Day” and “Take Back the Night,” on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
According to a news release, “Take Back the Day” will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Prince Lawn and will include refreshments and informational tables. Standing figures from the “Silent Witness Program” will also be at the event to represent local individuals who have been harmed by domestic or sexual violence.
“Take Back the Night,” a campus march against violence, will begin at 7 p.m. in Spadoni Park. The march will end at the University’s track and field facility for a performance by the Coastal Inspirational Ambassadors.
Speakers will include Lt. Jilleian Sessions-Stackhouse of the University’s Department of Public Safety; Julinna Oxley, head of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies; Linda Snelling, Silent Witness Program representative and speakers from the Rape Crisis Center of Myrtle Beach, the release said.
The podium will also be open to any students who wish to speak.
Both events are free and open to the public and are sponsored by the Campus Assault Resource and Education Support Coalition of Coastal Carolina University and Counseling Services.
