Planners: Myrtle Beach close to trophy air terminal

Wednesday, the Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board held a workshop to get an update from developers about the new terminal design for the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

Rick Ott, with MB Kahn construction brought back new conceptual designs to the Community Appearance Board,

The presentation was in response to changes C.A.B. members requested in May.

Some of the changes included designs centered on parking and rental car procedures.

Board chairman Larry Bragg said he is pleased with the changes and the meeting is a very positive step.

Bragg said the workshop is important because it matters how things look, especially with a project slated to cost almost $130 million.

“All you have to do is get in you car and drive north, south, or west and you immediately know when you've left the city limits of myrtle beach, so the design elements come into play, it raises the bar, not only for our wonderful citizens, but for the visitors that come here. The days are over to where it's (the) o.k. corral, anything goes, so it's very important. Also the airport should be, because of its cost and importance, it should be an icon, and we want to make sure that it has that appearance and look, it's something we can all be proud of, including the developer."

The C.A.B will hear from the MB Kahn again on Oct. 1.

Ott said if they are successful at the next meeting, you might see some construction happening at the airport in about two months.
