The Marine Corps League of Florence is raising funds for a monument to honor past, present and future U.S. Marine Corps veterans. The monument is being planned for Florence Veterans Park located adjacent to Florence Civic Center.
Marine Corps League members will be hosting a fundraiser for the monument from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Gun and Knife Show at the civic center. Complete details of the project, including scaled renderings of the monument and promotional fundraising brochures, will be available.
The goal of the project is to erect a monument that captures the spirit of the Marine Corps and preserves and inspires its proud traditions of teamwork, determination and service to country. The theme of the monument will be “uncommon valor was a common virtue” and features an image of the Iwo Jima flag raising.
