After a series of heavy rains earlier this summer caused leaking in the decades-old American Red Cross chapter building in Florence, work crews showed up to try to help the situation on Thursday morning.
Crews from Fields Construction donated their time to help patch some of the leaks, until a more permanent fix can be paid for.
Chapter workers say it's nice, for once, to be on the receiving end of a helping hand.
"It's really nice, being a part of the Red Cross, and what we do to help out the people, you know, we get the 'thank yous,' but this is a big 'thank you' in return," said T.J. Lesieur of the Pee Dee Chapter of the American Red Cross.
"We're getting it in return as far as being able to help us out so we can continue the service to our clients," said Lesieur.
The chapter will continue to find ways to raise money to help pay for a more permanent repair, and to replace some of the aging air conditioning units on the roof.
Those repairs could end up costing more than $50,000.
