The City of Marion is sponsoring a free sports night tomorrow, Sept. 10, beginning with tailgating and moving indoors for game time.
This past week, football fans came to watch the Carolina Gamecocks vs. NC State Wolfpack game in the CD Joyner Auditorium on Elizabeth Street.
“We want to do this quite often and make full use of the equipment,” Mayor Rodney Berry said.
“I just like a ball game no matter who is playing,” city employee Mike Richardson said after installing the big screen.
City employee William Sanders calls it the place to be to watch a football game.
“I think it’s great. I’m a 1974 graduate of USC and I heard about so I came down here to enjoy it,” Larry Duck said, after making a very close prediction of Carolina winning by ten points. The Gamecocks defeated the Wolfpack 7-3 on Thursday night.
“It’s great that the city thought enough of the citizens to let them come and enjoy a show and use their resources,” Duck said.
This week, Mayor Berry invites fans to join the fun and gather with family and friends to view the Clemson Tigers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets game on the 11’ x 15’ screen. Tailgating in the parking lot begins at 5 p.m. and game time is 7 p.m. Parking and admission is free; no alcohol, please.
C.D. Joyner features an 11-foot screen to watch game action during the college football season for fans to keep to get a close look at state football teams.
