That's life: Quickie slogans are good guides for living

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Each of my daughters gave me a calendar for Christmas.

One is a small pocketbook sized day-by-day lined calendar with room for noting birthdays and when bills are due. In it I have recorded such things as "to Devin’s," “Anna Grace to come" and "mamma comes to lunch."

The other is a full-sized hanging calendar on a nail in the kitchen. It contains pictures of "Twisted Whiskers" animals, a fondness for which she and I share, and the little squares of a month-at-a glance.
On the pocket calendar, I make notes and write little witticisms. Such as this little slogan I overheard a mom tell her daughter; “Just focus on what you need to do so you can do those things you want to do.”

“Life's short: eat dessert first,” “Well that's just peachy,” and “I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way,” that sort of thing.

In addition to the crazily cute animal photos that make you smile anyway, the wall calendar comes with a slogan per month, such as:

“Keeping secrets is easy. Lie through your teeth.”

“Sometimes the solution to all of life's problems is a good dessert.” And “A good friend will keep you from doing something stupid alone.”

Here are a couple more slogans to add to the list of ones you need to get you through each day of the rest of this month.

“Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.”

“A bumblebee is faster than a lawnmower.”

“Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled.”

“Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.”

“Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.”

“Every path has a few rocks and the occasional puddle.”

“When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.”

“Silence is sometimes the best answer.”

“Always drink upstream from the herd.”

What are your witticisms, favorite saying or guideline for daily living?
