FLORENCE – A Florence man died following an incident in the 300 block of North Dargan Street early Friday morning that ended up in the Trinity Baptist Church parking lot.

Anthony D. Robinson, 26, was apparently trying to get into a vehicle when a man came up to him and shot him with a rifle, according to Florence Police Department Maj. Carlos Raines.

The suspect fled in another vehicle after the shooting, Raines said.

Bystanders tried to give Robinson CPR in the parking lot, Raines said. Robinson was pronounced dead at an area hospital about 3 a.m. Raines said.

The shooting suspect is described as a black male, six-feet tall and 160 pounds. He appeared to be about 25 years old Raines said.

The incident happened between 2-2:30 a.m., officials said.
