Florence authorities find Ford Explorer in investigation of double homicide

FLORENCE — The green 2004 Ford Explorer investigators have been searching for in connection with a double homicide was found burned early Friday morning in the east Florence area, according to a press release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators are processing the vehicle for evidence in connection with the slayings of Billy Hall Jr. and Talya Jeanette Poston of Florence.

Investigators received a call about the vehicle after someone heard a loud popping noises, like gunshots, early Friday morning. They said they believe that was probably the sound of the tires exploding in the fire.

Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee is offering up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

“Our investigators are working around the clock to solve this terrible crime, and we are asking for help from the community for information,” Sheriff Kenney Boone said. “Anyone with information is urged to contact either the Florence County Sheriff’s Office (843) 665-2121 or Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee at (866) 369-8477 or (843) 667-TIPS (8477).” You do not have to reveal your identity to collect the reward.

Pathologists at the Medical University of South Carolina concluded that 32-year-old Talya Poston and 26-year-old Billy L. Hall, both of Florence, were shot to death, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.

In light of the ongoing investigation, Matthews declined to comment on the number of times the victims were shot or where they were shot.

The bodies were discovered about 11:35 a.m. Tuesday on Isaiah Street, a dirt road surrounded by woods off Flowers Road near Pamplico Highway, Florence County Sheriff’s Capt. Brett Camp said.

Deputies initially were responding to a call of shots fired in the area when the victims were found, Camp said.

A motive hasn’t been established.
