Dillon County Council to begin search for new administrator

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Dillon County Council is expected to began their search for a new county administror as early as next week, interim Dillon County Administrator David Mobley said.

The open position will be advertised in printed publications, Dillon County Chairman Harold Moody said in an earlier interview.

Mobley was hired by council in August and replaced Dillon County Clerk of Court Lisa Gray who was appointed by council to hold the position until another interim administrator could be hired.

The position has switched hands five times among four people within the last year when Clay Young resigned as administrator to serve in the same capacity in Kershaw County.

Gray held the position after Young’s departure until council hired their county attorney Charles Curry as the new administrator.

Curry, in turn, was dismissed after just three months after council said he showed a lack of judgement by mediating a federal U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission case even though it involved the investigation of his position, according to a letter dated June 18.

Dillon attorney Glenn Manning filed a complainant with the EEOC and the S.C. Human Affairs Commission because he said council descrimated against him when they hired Curry, who is white, as the administrator instead of him.

Manning said he’s still interested in the position but isn’t sure if he will apply again. He has hired an employment lawyer out of charlotte, N.C.in addition to taking action through the EEOC. That lawyer has been in contact with dillon county council about the resolving the case, he said.

The EEOC and human affairs officals have spoken to Dillon officals about the case, but their investigations into the matter continue.

S.C. Human Affairs Commissioner Jesse Washington said the agency does not issue comments or information on ongoing matters.

Curry was officially dismissed from the position July 27 after council voted during a special meeting to affirm their June decision to terminate him.
