HEMIGNWAY – A Hemingway man has been arrested and charged with arson in connection with a fire that destroyed his mobile home on Jan 29, 2008.

Gary Ranold Cohen, 46, 137 Cohen Drive, is charged with second degree arson by South Carolina State Law Enforcement Investigators, according to a release from SLED.

According to the arrest warrant, the incident that led to the fire started Jan 28, 2009, when representatives of Vanderbilt Mortgage and deputies of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrived to repossess the mobile home he and his family lived in at 293 Cohen Drive, according to the arrest warrant.

Mechanical problems prevented officials from towing the mobile home off the lot on that day, but officials told Cohen they’d be back the following day, Jan. 29, to retrieve the trailer, according to the arrest warrant.

The mobile home burned early the morning of Jan 29.

An investigation into the blaze determined it had been set using accelerants, according to the arrest warrant.
