Two men will vie for the office of mayor in Tuesday’s muncipal election in Timmonsville, while two others hope to gain seats on the town council.

Incumbent James Beard Jr. will face Darrick Jackson in the mayor’s race. Jackson, a 44-year-old native of Timmonsville, is an employee of Nucor Steel and also a licensed funeral home
director/mortician. He said if he wins the mayor’s seat, he will work to clean up the town and improve its infrastructure and services.

“There are things that need to be done and can be done, and I want to help the town of Timmonsville,” Jackson said. “I have the vision, and I think now is the time for change. So I encourage people to come out and vote Tuesday for that change.”

Beard could not be reached for comment.

Three town council seats are on the ballot Tuesday, but only two names will be on Tuesday’s ballot. Jim Pigate and Marvin Bruno are running for the seats. The third will be awarded to the write-in candidate who gets the most votes, Timmonsville Election Commissioner Ruth Martin said.

Betty Dowling is running against Lillie Mae Joe for an open Florence School District 4 seat in the town.

Voting will take place at Town Hall on Main Street. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Martin said all voters should have their voter’s registration card and a valid photo ID on hand.

For more information, call Martin at (843) 346-3016.
