Haunted Trail
This annual YMCA family event is a perfect way to kick off the Halloween weekend. Come to Kalmia Gardens 5:30 to 7 p.m. tonight. Bring a flashlight and $2 to enjoy the moderately spooky trail walk and a hotdog afterwards. For $5 you can get all that plus a child’s size “Halloween at the Y” t-shirt.
Friend Month
Our football-themed friend promotion ends at 3 p.m. Saturday when the Y closes. If a Y member has suggested you join our team, you must sign up for your membership by then to take advantage of the reduced joining fee and free t-shirt.
Roller Hockey
This is a non-competitive, non-contact, controlled environment for boys and girls ages 6-17. Previous skating experience not required. Program runs from 6:15 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 22 at Bill Woodson’s Roller Hockey Rink (directions provided). Players will need roller blades. Some loaner equipment, including skates, is available.
Turkey Trot
Don’t forget the upcoming Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. Make plans to bring the whole family to walk or run the picturesque 5K course as a great way to start your morning before feasting later in the day.
Fall Back
Saturday night we reset our clocks, but, as we are falling back in time, don’t fall back in your fitness habits. It’s darker out, it’s colder out, and the big eating holidays are looming. Now’s a good time to look at your exercise plan and make some adjustments to stay ahead of the game. For example, if you indulge on Halloween without a plan to offset the temptations, did you know it will take a one-hour cycling class just to burn off two of those miniature Snickers bars? Need help in making a plan? Come see us at the YMCA.
