Men’s Soccer
The Coker Cobras were unable to top the No. 15 ranked Trojans of Anderson University of Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action. Anderson defeated the Cobras 2-0 behind goals from Paulo Passini and Rayon Markland. The win improves Anderson to 12-1-2 overall and 6-1-2 in conference play, while Coker falls to 10-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference.

It was a hard fought, tightly contested game with each team registering six shots on goal and a total of 22 fouls being issued.

Coker returns to the field on Saturday when they travel to Laurinburg, N.C., to face St. Andrews Presbyterian College in their final regular season match of the year.

Women’s Soccer
Ashley Cotton tallied seven points as the Anderson University Trojans spoiled the Coker Lady Cobras senior day with a 6-1 victory in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. Cotton had a hat trick, while adding an assist in the victory, improving the Trojans to 7-8 overall, and 6-3 in the conference. The loss drops Coker to 0-15 on the year and 0-10 in the conference.

Coker goalkeeper Carrie Hudnell (Goose Creek) had nine saves, while Anderson's Alyssa Stephens had seven saves.

Volleyball
In a thrilling five set match the Coker Lady Cobras volleyball team picked up their first home victory of the season, defeating the St. Augustine's College Falcons 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. This marked not only the first home victory for the Lady Cobras, but also the first five set win for Coker.

It was not an easy for Coker (3-22, 1-11 Conf. Carolinas) as they started the match with a pair of wins, 25-19 and 25-15, only to fall behind in the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-23. Then in a back and forth fifth set the Lady Cobras pulled out the 15-12 win.
Leading the Lady Cobras was freshman Lisa Ross (Bowling Green, Ky.)with a double-double of 16 kills and 11 digs, while Cynallyhia Indriago (Columbia, S.C.) also had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Cross Country
The Coker cross country teams competed in the 2009 Conference Carolinas Championships at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte on Friday. The Cobra women placed ninth out of 12 teams, while the Cobra men were 11th out of 11 teams.
Freshman Samantha Fletcher (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) was the highest finisher for the Cobras, placing 16th overall with a time of 20:32 on the 5,000-meter course. Fletcher's time was just two seconds short of placing her on the All-Conference third team. Following Fletcher was Dana Daves (York) with a time of 21:41, while Aliese Gregory (Aiken) came in at 22:26. Alex Ochoa (Pamplico) came in at 22:31 and Amy Jones (Hurricane, W. Va.) and Caitlyn Driscoll (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished at 23:36 and 25:34 respectively.

On the men's side, Britian Tomlinson (Rock Hill) led the Cobra men with a time of 30:59, followed by Quinn Wenger (Sumter) with a time of 32:43. Austin McJunkins (Walhalla, S.C.) completed the 8,000-meter course in 33:28, while Thad Sulek (Hilton Head) and Andrew Caputa (Germany) finished with times of 35:49 and 36:27 respectively.

The Cobra runners will now prepare for the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional meet at Wingate University on Nov. 7.
