A Gordon Elementary school fifth-grader was taken to a hospital after he was hit by a school bus in Dillon on Friday morning, Dillon School District 2 Superintendent Ray Rogers said.

The incident happened at 6:45 a.m. near McKenzie Road and Stewart Street, according to a police incident report.

The victim was late getting to bus stop and was hit by the back of the bus, according to the report.

Rogers said the bus driver never knew anything had happened and didn’t know the boy had been struck.

The victim had been suspended from riding the bus for three days, including Friday, according to the report.

The victim was taken to Dillon McLeod Hospital, where he was treated for a pelvis broken in two places, according to the report. He has since been transported to Charleston.

It is not clear if the bus driver will be found at fault in the incident.

She did not drive her afternoon school bus route Friday, Rogers said.

The incident is under investigation and it is not immediately clear if she will return to work Monday, Rogers said.
