I always appreciate your everyday-people stories like the one on Oct. 5 about Bubba Parrott where the focus is not a heroic feat or an alarming tragedy but the possibilities within an ordinary life.
When I was young, the only way most people traveled was by Greyhound. It was a comfortable, peaceful experience; you could look out the window and see the countryside. Occasionally, you would see a mural painted on the side of a farm barn. The ordinary old building was invisible; only the painting registered to the sight and mind.
Bubba’s life is like that to those who come and go around him. They only see the mural of his kindness. Hopefully, his story inspires us to create some beauty for those whose quick encounters take them past our lives.
