Construction of the new Baker Memorial Public Library in Timmonsville is on schedule and nearing completion, according to Florence County Library Director Ray McBride.
The new 6,500-square-foot branch will feature many improvements.
“We will be increasing staff from 2 to 5, including a MLS-degreed librarian.” McBride said. Beverly Bell and Mary Dorreity, the library associates at the Timmonsville Library will move to the new facility.
Titles in the library’s collection will increase from 2,000 to 10,000 volumes, computers will increase from 5 to 18, including 12 computers for adults, all with the SC Employment Securities Commission’s ONESTOP software to assist residents in finding work, and there will be six computers for the children’s room.
The hours will increase from 18 to 40 hours per week, more than doubling the hours opened to the public.
Shelving and furniture will be installed in the completed building mid-November. Data lines, computers and the hiring of new staff will be completed in January with a grand opening date to be announced for the second week in February.
