Recycling is easy when in comes to items like paper and plastic, but the process can be a little more challenging with large items like household appliances. One of those appliances is the refrigerator. Santee Cooper is sponsoring a new program to help its customers recycle their old energy consuming refrigerators.
"When your old refrigerators are picked up they are recycled which eliminates going to the landfill, which helps our environment," say Sherry Coleman Santee Cooper Energy Advisory.
Santee Cooper has teamed up with Home Depot and other appliance retailers in the area in a "refrigerator rebate program". Santee Cooper will pick up your old, energy consuming refrigerator for free, if you purchase a new energy efficient Energy Star model.
"They can save about 1/3 of the energy by purchasing an Energy Star refrigerator or appliance," says Danine Swartz Appliance Associate.
Not only does the program help you save money on your utility bill, it also helps you save money buying the refrigerator upfront. Santee Cooper customers can save anywhere from thirty five to one hundred and dollars in rebates depending on how many energy star refrigerators they buy and how many older models they recycle.
"Its important when you select your refrigerator to look at the Energy Star tag to see what kind of savings you can expect, and of course with our rebate, you'll get additional cash in your pocket," says Sherry Coleman Santee Cooper Energy Advisory.
