It is common knowledge that our current health care system is broke, unless you’re one of the big insurance companies. It is not working for the common people, because tens of millions of Americans have no insurance at all. Hundreds of millions other Americans live with the constant worry that if they have to move, change jobs, or lose their jobs, they may lose their health insurance. And, we have all heard of people who have gotten so sick that their insurance company dropped them.
Well, under President Obama’s plan, that would not happen. The president’s plan would make it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage based on preexisting conditions, to drop or weaken coverage if a person gets sick, and to place a cap on the amount of coverage you can receive in a given year or a lifetime.
The president’s health reform plan would also make it possible for the tens of millions Americans now without insurance to afford quality health care. His plan calls for an insurance exchange, where individuals and small businesses can compare plans and buy the one that works best for them.The public option in his plan would create more competition and ensure every American has an affordable choice.
This is the closest we have been in years to reforming health care in America and an unprecedented coalition of doctors and nurses and millions of Americans support the president’s plan. Let’s finish the job and pass real health reform now.
