Darlington Presbyterian Church to celebrate annual Loyalty Day

Darlington Presbyterian Church will celebrate its annual Loyalty Day with a special worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The guest speaker will be the Rev. Gradye Parsons, stated clerk of the General Assembly of the PC (USA).

A native of Tennessee, Parsons joined the office of the General Assembly in 2000.

Previously, he served congregations in Newport and Bristol, Tenn., for 15 years.

Parsons became executive presbyter and stated clerk of Holston Presbytery in 1994.

He was elected stated clerk in 2008.

Parsons graduated from the University of Tennessee. He received his master of divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass.

He did post-graduate work at Columbia Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1979 by Holston Presbytery.

Parsons’ wife, Kathy, is an elementary school teacher. They have two adult children, Josh, an attorney, and Rachel, a youth minister.

Special music will be provided by the chancel choir. Ann Dowling is the organist.

Also included are Peter Armstrong, bagpiper, the Florence Brass Quartet, and Kevin Flowers, timpani and percussion.

A nursery will be provided and dinner on the grounds will follow the worship service.

Kevin Cauley is pastor of Darlington Presbyterian.

He and members of the church invite all friends and community members to join them for this special homecoming service.
