The University of North Carolina at Pembroke has received $750,000 for a biodiesel research program.
According to press release, The program focuses on feedstocks that are readily available in southeastern North Carolina and can be easily converted into biodiesel.
US Congressman Mike McIntyre stated, “This exciting new program will stimulate education in the classroom for UNCP students while providing farmers with additional value and protecting the environment. Alternative energy such as biodiesel is the wave of the future for energy generation, and UNCP is a leader in this emerging industry. This is a victory for the students and faculty that will have great benefits for public!”
The University’s program utilizes cheap raw materials like waste vegetable oils and animals fats to produce biodiesel in the most efficient and economical way.
The U.S. Congress appropriated $750,000 for the UNCP biodiesel program as part of the Fiscal Year 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill.
