Troopers looking for deadly crash witnesses

S.C. Highway Patrol troopers are looking for motorists or passengers who may have witnessed a deadly crash on U.S. 76 on Thursday.

The crash happened on the Pee Dee River bridge on Thursday at about 8 p.m. and involved a tractor-trailer, dump truck and two other vehicles which caught fire during the incident.

The Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash and is searching for more information that will aid in its understanding of what happened during the incident.

Curtis L. Johnson, 36, of Hartwell, Ga., and his daughter, 13-year-old Crystal A. Johnson, died as a result of injuries they suffered in the crash, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said. As a result of the crash, U.S. 76 was closed for several hours.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the S.C. Highway Patrol at (843) 661-4705.
