U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said 31-year-old Nicholas Lloyd of Myrtle Beach plead guilty in federal court to possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Terry L. Wooten of Florence accepted the plea and will impose a sentence at a later date.
In October 2005, federal agents in Newark, New Jersey, began an investigation of a pay-to-enter website offering child pornography, and identified individuals who were purchasing subscriptions to it. Lloyd was identified as a subscriber. Records showed that Lloyd used his credit card to join the website, and that Lloyd had sent a Western Union payment of $130.00 to an individual in the Soviet Union known to distribute child pornography. A search of Lloyd’s Myrtle Beach residence last January resulted in the seizure of three computers, two thumb-drives, and other computer storage devices that contained approximately 13,000 images of child pornography and 470 child pornography videos.
Mr. Wilkins stated the maximum penalty Lloyd can receive is a fine of $250,000.00 and imprisonment for ten years.
The case was investigated by agents of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, of the Florence office handled the case.
