Giving Back to Hartsville Boys and Girls Club
The Coker College women's soccer team began collecting used sports equipment to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Hartsville today as part of the 2009 Coker College Homecoming events. The Lady Cobras had collection bins at the Coker volleyball match and at the men's and women's soccer games Saturday.
Fans are encouraged to clean out their closets, empty their old equipment bags and check in the garage for any used athletic equipment. All donations are accepted and anything that cannot be used by the Hartsville Boys and Girls Club will be donated to another Boys and Girls Club in need.

Volleyball
The Lady Cobra volleyball team dropped their eighth straight Conference Carolinas match on Sept. 29, falling in straight sets to the Barton College Bulldogs 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs won with scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-15. The loss drops Coker to 1-16 overall and 0-8 in the conference, while Barton improves to 7-10 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
The Coker Lady Cobras volleyball team was unable to pick up a win in their 2009 Homecoming match on Friday night, as they fell to the Fayetteville State Broncos 3-1.
Coker jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the first set, but the Broncos stormed back to take the next three sets in straight sets, 25-19, 25-23, and 25-14.The loss drops the Lady Cobras to 1-17 on the season, while Fayetteville State improves to 10-7 overall.
Heritage Community Financial Services Athlete of the Month
The Heritage Community Financial Services Athlete of the Month for September is the entire Coker Men's Soccer Team.
The Cobra men have started the 2009 season in historical fashion, with several program firsts, including having the best start in school history, 7-0 with five shutout victories, receiving a southeast regional ranking of No. 3 and a national ranking of No. 21. To top it all off, they are led by first year head coach Paul Leese and have as many as seven freshmen in the starting line-up on any given day.
Currently, the Cobras are 7-1-2 on the year with a 2-1-1 Conference Carolinas record.
Soccer
The Queens women's soccer team spread the wealth Sept. 30 against Coker with seven different players scoring goals in the 10-0 conference win at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park.
The spectators at the Royals men's soccer game were treated to 20 minutes of free soccer Sept. 30 as the Royals and Coker Cobras played to a 0-0 finish in Conference Carolinas action at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park.
Coker led in total shots, 19-11, but the Royals held Coker to just one shot in the first overtime period after a game-high eight in the second half.
The Lady Cobras soccer team failed to pick up a win in their 2009 Homecoming match as they fell to Southern Wesleyan University Warriors 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match. The loss drops Coker 0-10 on the season, while Southern Wesleyan improves to 7-1-1.
Mike Crook's indirect kick goal in the 48th minute gave the Coker Cobras 2-1 lead and eventually led the Cobras to their 2009 Homecoming victory over Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. This marks the second straight Homecoming victory for Coker in the last two years. The Cobras are now 8-1-2 on the year, while the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan drop to 3-3-2.
