COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in South Carolina.
Gov. Mark Sanford's office says the Republican is presiding over the lighting of the state Christmas tree Sunday evening.
The Columbia Garden Club decorates the tree that traditionally towers above one of Columbia's busiest streets, and it's up to the governor to turn on the lights.
This year's white fir is about 30-feet tall and came from a farm in Pennsylvania.
The Garden Club says it's trying to save money during the recession. So this year's tree is a little bit smaller than in years past and cost half as much.
