LAKE CITYFlorence School District 3 Superintendent Beth M. Wright was one of three finalists for the director of schools job with Murfreesboro City Schools in Tennessee.

The district’s board, however, has further narrowed the search down to two finalists, and Wright was not selected among them, Murfreesboro City Schools School/Community Relations and Grant Writing Coordinator Cheryl Harris said in a phone interview Wednesday.

The two finalists selected were Dr. Linda Gilbert and Dr. Lela Bridges, Harris said. Gilbert is a professor at Middle Tennessee State University, where she is a faculty member in the Department of Educational Leadership.

Bridges is superintendent of Harvey Public School District 152 in Illinois, Harris said.

The board will vote on its new Director of Schools on Dec. 5 and announce its decision on Dec. 15, Harris said.

Earlier this year, Wright was a finalist for the School District of Pickens County. The district’s board ultimately selected Dr. Henry Hunt for the job.

In 2007, she was one of five finalists for the superintendency of Wilson County Schools in Lebanon, Tenn., according to Lake City News & Post reports.

She also was a candidate in 2006 for superintendent of Opelika City Schools in Alabama and in 2005 for superintendent of the Fort Mill School District, in northern central South Carolina, according to News & Post reports.

Wright, a native of Murfreesboro, has served as Florence School District 3 superintendent since 2001.

Before coming to Lake City, Wright served as elementary schools director at Williamson County Schools in Franklin, Tenn., where she also worked as middle schools director and ESL (English as a Second Language) coordinator.

She received a bachelor’s in mental retardation and behavior disturbances from Auburn University in 1977.

Wright holds a master’s in special education as well as an educational specialist degree in education administration and supervision from Middle Tennessee State University.

She is enrolled in a Tennessee State University doctoral program.
