COLUMBIA—A new manufacturing facility is scheduled to begin construction in Williamsburg County later this month, representing an investment of $1.25 million and creating 50 jobs.

The Truss Company Inc., a manufacturer of wood roof and floor trusses, hopes operations of its new plant, to be located at the Tri-Area Business Center in Salters, will begin in March or April, according to a press release from the S.C. Department of Commerce.

“We are pleased to be building our new facility in Williamsburg County,” David Rice, president and CEO of The Truss Company Inc., said in the release. “South Carolina has a positive business environment and a very strong work force. We appreciate all the support we’ve received from state and local officials. There has been a broad range of help in getting this company to become a reality.”

A number of local and state leaders spoke positively about news of the company’s decision to locate in Williamsburg County, saying the announcement is a compliment to South Carolina’s work force, and that they hope economic development will continue in the area.

“This announcement of new jobs and investment will greatly contribute to the overall prosperity of Williamsburg County,” Williamsburg County Council Chairman Stanley S. Pasley said in the release. “We look forward to a long and profitable relationship with this new industry.”

“Work force, work ethic, geographic location, focus, vision and value continue to be the main reasons for success in locating industry in Williamsburg County and our region,” state Sen. Yancey McGill, D-Kingstree, said in the release. “We welcome this major economic development announcement.”

Rice said the work of a number of local leaders helped bring the company’s new plant to Salters. Hilton McGill, director of the Williamsburg County Development Board, and his staff were among those state officials recognized in the president and CEO’s comments.

“Without all these people working hard and not giving up, this company may not have gotten off the ground,” he said.
