LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Reader reflects on Fort Hood shootings

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Nov. 5, 2009: A terrible shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. A psychiatrist gets mad, murders at least 13 people, and wounds another 31. A dreadful incident to be sure, but I’m wondering how the lefty-loons are going to handle this event. For example, lefty-loons don’t believe in your right to keep and bear arms. They believe a perfect world would surely reflect their beliefs. However, this shooting was perpetuated by a professional, a military major, a psychiatrist.

This is not the first time we have seen this kind of incident at Fort Hood. This kind of madness has repeated itself all around the world. There have been numerous incidents where military or police officers have gone loony to shoot, stab, kill or torture some innocent bystander. The examples are plentiful, but the point is, these are professional people whom we trust.

So I’m wondering: to satisfy the lefty-loons should we disarm the military and the police? After all, they do carry firearms and obviously, a certain percentage have gone to the dark side and used a firearm to kill and/or maim. A lefty-loon would naturally blame the firearm for such atrocities but let us look to the obvious. The human species is not perfect. We cannot legislate humanity into utopia. But the lefty-loons would have us believe that they know best, and given the proper authority and legislation, they can create a brave new world.

But wait! History is full of examples where the promise of change and harmony has propelled some loon into totalitarian control over a populace, but I can’t recall a single example where that kind of power has worked out for the good of the people.
