Thursday’s Morning News will be stuffed with announcements of deals from more than 35 preprint advertisers who want your business Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
The total value of inserts will be more than $5,000, Regional Advertising Manager Jason Dillon said. There will be up to 33 standalone inserts and four wraps in Thursday’s paper, depending on where readers live in the newspaper’s Pee Dee circulation area.
“There are greater savings earlier in the shopping season,” Dillon said. “There are significant savings ahead of Black Friday. They are offering their best discounts Thursday through Sunday.”
Many local stores, excited about beginning the holiday shopping season, will be open Thanksgiving in an attempt to satisfy demand.
Wal-Mart, Sears, Old Navy and Walgreens are among the stores who’ve said they’ll be open Thanksgiving.
Wal-Mart decided to open Thanksgiving for the first time, citing safety concerns, spokesperson E.R. Anderson said.
By spreading its holiday sales from Thanksgiving through the weekend, the retail giant hopes to disperse large crowds of stampeding shoppers. A temporary Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death in New York last year on Black Friday.
Thursday’s newspaper will cost $1.50, the price ordinarily reserved for the Sunday edition.
“With over $5,000 of coupons and holiday shopping savings, Thanksgiving’s Day paper is well worth the newsstand price,” Regional Publisher Mark Laskowski said. “It’s an important guide for shoppers. Advertisers have traditionally used Thanksgiving Day as the start of the traditional holiday shopping season.”
Some retailers have revealed sale items for Black Friday. Staples used Facebook and Twitter updates this week to promote specials on laptops, GPS devices and computer monitors.
Target, which is not revealing its deals, reportedly is offering low prices on small kitchen appliances, some as low as $3.
Sears has promised customers if they order with its Sears2Go iPhone application, the product will be ready in-store within five minutes or customers receive a Sears gift card.
Nearly 30 percent of adults plan to shop this weekend and check out deals, Consumers Reports National Research Center said this week.
