LETTER TO THE EDITOR: School district recognizes Superintendent McCants

We at Florence School District 4 have long recognized what an ethical, hardworking and dedicated leader we have in our superintendent, Dr. Bertha McCants. It is with pride that we have learned that others feel as we do about her.

In June of this year, Dr. McCants was named the 2009 Administrator of the Year by the Florence County Association of Education Office Professionals. Then in August at the 2009 Pee Dee Business/Non Profit Heroes and Sheroes Awards Luncheon, Dr. McCants was named one of this year’s community Heroes. They said of her “As superintendent of FSD4, Dr. McCants is committed to ensuring that students, staff members, and the community at large are aware of the strategies that must be consistently implemented for sustained student achievement.” As a representative of the State Department of Education said to us at a recent school board retreat, “She’s a real gem.”

All the citizens, parents and students of Timmonsville school district can be confident that Dr. McCants is hard at work to achieve her goal that FSD4 becomes the fastest improving school district in the state. We would like to say congratulations and thanks, Dr. McCants. We are proud to have you on our team.
