FLORENCE – Motorists along East Palmetto Street have been greeted by a change in scenery near Florence Regional Airport.
Florence’s water tower, painted a checkered orange and white, has been covered almost top to bottom with a tarp as part of its regular maintenance.
The tank is typically repainted and repaired every 10 years, Drew Griffin with Florence’s department of public works, said.
The tarp is to capture the lead-based paint as the contractor sand blasts it off so it can be disposed of in an approved landfill, Griffin said.
Utility Service Company Inc. from Perry, Ga., has the $267,000 contract to handle the job, Griffin said.
