As we are approaching the holiday season, the Feed A Family Foundation is organizing its fourth annual event.
The Feed A Family Foundation is a group of local individuals that have banned together with the intention of making a difference throughout the community. The mission is to provide warm meals for those families that do not have the financial means to purchase a hot meal for Christmas.
In addition to providing warm meals to families in need, Feed a Family Foundation continues to focus on raising the awareness of our needs in this county and to gather and inspire other individuals to participate. This year we are projected to have 500 local school children participate in a project where they decorate delivery boxes while discussing what Feed A Family is about and discussing what it means to be a person that gives back to the community that gives them so much. There will be an additional 500 kids that will make Christmas cards to be placed in the box. It will take nearly 75 volunteers to help in the kitchen and another 90 drivers.
Feed a Family will deliver to 550 families on Christmas Eve. Each delivery will consist of a large cooked turkey, green beans, mash potatoes, gravy, rolls and a desert. The cost to feed a family is $35 and the Feed Family Foundation will need to raise nearly $20,000 in order to serve these families.
We need the community to get together and help us execute our mission. We understand that contributing to others is tough with the current economy yet we also know that helping others is important. We need financial donations as much as a volunteer, no donation of time or money is too small. Remember, it takes $35 to out a smile on a family’s face during Christmas.
