When called to our son’s apartment on Aug. 14, my wife and I had no idea that we were about to experience the tragic death of our beloved son, Phillip Todd.
When we arrived at our son’s apartment at 1:20 a.m., the Florence County Sheriff’s Department was already at the scene. Not only was an attempt made to keep us from our son, but it was accompanied by extreme profanity.
Our two other sons, one of which is a twin to Phillip, were also treated poorly.
Thankfully, for our family, one compassionate, attending official was present, and my wife and I were allowed, one last time, to hold our precious son before his body was taken away.
We called the sheriff’s office on Aug. 25 to discuss some of these issues surrounding the night of our son’s death. After hearing the issues, the sheriff said that he needed to check out a couple of things and would get back with us in a couple of days.
We were not contacted back by the sheriff. We then made several calls and left messages requesting that someone get back with us.
As of today, Nov. 13, no one from that office has contacted us regarding the issues discussed with the sheriff concerning the issues that occurred the night of our son Phillip’s death.
We are hoping that, in the future, our sheriff’s department will consider the feelings of the grieving family and refrain from the condescending, harsh, rude and vulgar manner by which we were treated during the most devastating time of our lives.
