LETTER: Hartsville, the Art of Good Living Marketing in Full Swing

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The economy may be lagging in cities around the nation, but here in Hartsville the living is decidedly good.

The “Hartsville the Art of Good Living - Expect pleasant surprises!” campaign culminated from a series of community meetings with business leaders across the city in a joint effort to market the city to potential home buyers and businesses wishing to relocate. The marketing has continued with assistance from a grant from the Byerly Foundation to the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce. Realtors have noted an upswing in home sales, and new businesses are opening including a new restaurant, Bow Thai Kitchen, along with construction of the future Hampton Inn and Suites.

The initial focus was to create a landing page for visitors to learn more about the city on the Internet; the creative team includes Catherine Romaine of Integrated Communication Consultants and Marcos Sola of Sonoco, each of whom recently won Palmetto Awards for their excellence in design. The Hartsville Chamber site is launched, and a new version of the Hartsville Good Living site is nearly complete. Social media sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have been a successful compliment to the Web sites, providing daily updates that has proven to be very appealing to residents and visitors to Hartsville.

The theme of the Art of Good Living is evident in the popular Good Living Marketplace that is held the first Saturday each month in Burry Park, sponsored by the Hartsville Downtown Development Association. Vendors sell organic produce, dairy and other food items in addition to local artisans, gift items and more. Burry Park is located in the center of the city in the former Cargill Mill property between Fourth and Fifth Streets. The location gained notoriety during the popular Hartsville Idol competition that drew huge crowds this summer.

Hartsville ushered in the Christmas season this Thursday night as the downtown stores host their Annual Downtown Holiday Open House with Christmas decorations and refreshments at each local store. Later that evening, the Hartsville Coker Concert Association presented renowned pianist Tian Ying at the Watson Theater in the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center.

On Dec. 5, visit Hartsville for an Old Fashioned Christmas with the Hartsville Christmas Parade at 10:30 a.m., Good Living Marketplace 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and special evening events in Burry Park beginning at 5 p.m., including the Hartsville Holiday Musical, Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and a special viewing of the movie “Polar Express.”
