On Oct. 29 The Johnakin Players attended Francis Marion University's opening production of Sam Shepard's Buried Child, a perspective on the disillusionment of the American Dream. A story of how people and society bury their shame and how they cope with that shame.
The students and the adults in attendance came away with many questions regarding the play's content, context and the metaphorical meaning.
Deep discussion between students ensued on the bus trip back to Marion. Aside from the play itself, the students met the actors and took a photo op. The comradery, play, discussion, examples of acting, stagecraft, historical aspects, academics, everything, made for a learning experience for everyone.
