KINGSTREE — The fate of Williamsburg County School District Superintendent Ralph C. Fennell remains a mystery following a meeting with members of the Williamsburg County School Board early Wednesday morning.
Fennell, along with his attorney Daryl G. Hawkins, met with the board in executive session to discuss matters concerning matters regarding his status within the district.
While Fennell and Hawkins said they could not discuss the specifics of the meeting, they said details of his contract were not resolved.
“They just had some questions about things that have come up since I went on administrative leave,” Fennell said after the meeting.
When open session resumed, board chairman, the Rev. Norman Gamble, said members discussed whether Fennell “has indeed performed his duties and responsibilities during his tenure,” but no action was taken.
Following that statement, the board approved action allowing the chairman to notify “an employee” that his or her contract will not be renewed beyond the 2009-2010 school year.
Charles Boykin, the district’s attorney, said after the meeting the identity of the employee could not be revealed until that person has been properly notified of the board’s decision.
Fennell said his contract will expire at the end of January 2010.
