Marion City Council met on Nov. 10 and started off the meeting with second reading approval of the fireworks ordinance for the City of Marion.
Bob Anderson, city administrator, discussed the upcoming Christmas plans.
The Christmas tree lighting will be Saturday, Dec. 5 at 6 pm and following the parade at 4:30 p.m. will be a fireworks display.
Anderson also brought up renter liability issues. The city is now considering requiring patrons to have insurance before the can rent or use any of the city owned facilities.
Until now the city has been held liable for any accident that happened on their property. Currently, there are lawsuits involving this type of accident pending with the city.
Council also discussed parking options for truck drivers. Currently, some truck drivers have been illegally parking their trucks in residential areas, violating city ordinances.
Council is searching for a place for truck drivers to park their trucks without violating the ordinances.
One of the concerns while brainstorming possible truck parking locations was finding an area that will be able to support the weight of the truck and its load, while still being in a safe area so truckers will not have to worry about their trucks getting broken into.
In the mean time, city council has decided to suspend ticketing of trucks parked illegally for 60 days or until an ideal parking location can be found.
Council concluded their meeting with a moment of silence in remembrance of those killed and injured during an incident at Fort Hood.
