The turnout was steady, although not necessarily overwhelming Tuesday morning for the runoff elections in Myrtle Beach.
Incumbent Mayor John Rhodes and former mayor Mark McBride are in a runoff for the mayor's office, while incumbent councilmen Chuck Martino and Randall Wallace are battling challenger Mike Lowder for two remaining council seats.
"It's important that we all vote," said Brenda Arnold, who voted early at the Base Recreation Center near Market Common. "I've got some issues I'd like to get addressed for the city, so I hope my vote counts!"
On the north end of the city, the precinct at Ocean View Baptist Church on North Kings Highway was pretty busy, especially early on.
"I think there's much more than usual," said Ginny Hill, who came out to vote at the church. "
Voters like Hill think Tuesday's runoff was the perfect opportunity to help the city move past the divisiveness of the elections, where issues like biker rallies and the new ad tax brought contentious campaigning leading up to the general election two weeks ago.
"It's time to turn loose of the negative feelings and move forward," said Hill. "We want to make our city strong and we need to elect people and then support (them)" she said.
