Deputies arrested two Lamar women during an investigation of a Lamar business believed to be conducting Sunday alcohol sales illegally, Darlington County Sheriff's Capt. Andy Locklair said.
Sandy Renee Harrell, 40, of 449 Pine St., is charged with selling alcohol illegally on Sunday, Darlington County Detention Center booking reports show.
Wannette A. Poarch, 39, of the same address, is charged with interfering with an investigation.
It happened Sunday at Amerson's Grocery where deputies were conducting the investigation. Locklair said that’s when Poarch confronted the deputies and started “raising sand and hollering.” Deputies tried to search the business, but she got in their way and kept interfering.
Deputies told people on the scene to stay where they were so they could be questioned, but Locklair said Poarch kept telling them to leave.
The business has a license to sell alcohol, but it’s illegal to sell it on Sundays, Locklair said.
Both women were arrested Sunday. Harrell was released Monday and fined $250, while Poarch was released Monday on a $500 bond.
