Twelfth Circuit Court Judge Ralph King Anderson Jr. denied bond Monday for a man charged in connection with the shooting death of another man at a Lake City mobile home park.
Kevin Burgess, 33, of 429 Lassie St., Lake City, went before Anderson for a reconsideration of bond hearing Monday. Burgess is charged with murder and assault and battery with intent to kill.
The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. April 11 at the Coker Mobile Home Park on South Morris Street, where the deceased victim lived, Lake City Police Chief Billy Brown said in a previous interview.
Burgess is accused of firing at another man during an escalated verbal argument and missing before shooting 38-year-old Frederick L. Scriven, Brown said.
Scriven died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to an autopsy performed April 13 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said soon after the crime.
Brown said Scriven was an acquaintance of Burgess’, but there’s no evidence he was involved in the argument between Burgess and the other man. It’s not clear what prompted the argument.
